KidSwitch is an award-winning glow-in-the-dark light switch extender. I have been looking for something like this for nearly 10 yrs.  My aunt had something similar in the kids' bathroom that she had gotten at an arts and crafts fair. Starting at only $8.95 the KidSwitch really is a great deal.  My kids love that it glows in the dark and of course that they can turn the bathroom light on without my help.  It's no wonder they've won so many awards and featured in magazines.  I think these are just great!

Product Review: Oliver's Labels Personalized Kids' Labels

Oliver's Labels are washing machine and dishwasher safe personalized labels.  They have all types and designs of labels.  My son chose the sports theme and we were sent a sample pack.  I really like their Stick-Eez clothing labels, they are no-sew, no-iron labels that you just stick on the care tag.  For tag-less clothes they also have iron-on labels that are easy to put on, and this coming from someone who is seriously domestically challenged.  Some of their other types of labels include safety wristbands, shoe labels and bag tags.  Oliver's labels designs range from cute to elegant to allergy alerts.

My favorite thing about Oliver's Labels is their Found-It code.  This is a lost and found code that you can get on your labels for free.  If an item is lost, whoever finds it can go to the website listed on the label and enter your code. Your code is tied to your email and Oliver's Labels acts as a go between to recover your stuff.  Your personal information is kept safe.  This is so much better than putting your phone number on your stuff.

Buy It! You can purchase Oliver's Labels from their website.  You can purchase individual types or one of their packages.  They also offer custom packages so you can get exactly what you need.

Connect! You can connect with Oliver's Labels by Facebook, Twitter and RSS

Great Giveaway: Family Facts Activity Wall Calendar Ends 12/19

Sponsored by Tomoson.com

One of my New Year's resolutions, in fact the most important to me, is to get the family organized.  Now that all 3 kids are in school and participating in extracurricular activities we really need a way to keep everyone's schedule straight.  I had been just keeping all appointments and activities on my phone.  That works great to remind me an hour before, but it doesn't help anyone else know what's going on.  It really irritates my husband because sometimes he won't find out about an appointment until I'm getting ready to go.  While this system has been working better than none, I'm actually getting to most of my appointments, it's not enough.  I need a way to keep everyone's schedule in one place that's easily accessible to the whole family.  Family Facts Activity Wall Calendar does just that.

FROM THE WEBSITE:
An organizer for the wall! This organizer calendar is the perfect 16-month planner for every busy family. Complete with extra-large grids to keep track of each day's events, large storage pocket, over 390 stickers, write-on / wipe off boards, a pen-with an eraser, and contact sheets for important information such as the pediatrician, dentist, orthodontist, veterinarian, school, bus company and much more. This all-in-one command center makes it EASY to stay on top of your busy family's schedules. Each day is divided into 5 colors, so if you choose to organize by color, you can, without having to grab different colored pens. From soccer games to business trips, EVERYONE'S schedule is easy to follow with 2011 Family Facts Family Activity Wall Calendar.

Order for the holidays and get a free pad of paper--makes a great stocking stuffer. Offer ends 12/17/10.

MY THOUGHTS:
Family Facts Activity Wall Calendar is just what I needed.  I love the colored spaces for each member of the family, it saves space not having to write in the names and I can see at a glance who has what.  I also love the stickers, they are especially great for my 5 year old who's learning to read.  I also love the fact that it is dry erase.  Schedules are constantly changing so it's great to be able to just erase and rewrite them.  The large pocket is awesome and the spaces for notes and contacts are very useful.  I highly recommend Family Facts Activity Wall Calendar.

BUY IT!

Family Facts Activity Wall Calendar can be purchased from Calendars.com for only $12.95

WIN IT!
One lucky Hot Mom Tips reader will win a Family Facts Activity Wall Calendar of their own.  Giveaway ends 11:59 PM 19 December, 2010

Great Giveaway: Teach Them to Tie with Tie Buddies Ends 12/19

Sponsored by Tomoson.com

Learning to tie can be one of the most difficult challenges for little ones.  Not only do they need to learn the steps necessary to tie, they also have to learn how to hold and what to do with loops.  This can be very confusing and difficult for little fingers.  Enter Tie Buddies.  Tie Buddies go on the laces and essentially make the loops for them, teaching them how to hold the laces while they learn to tie.  Tie Buddies were invented by a mother trying to figure out a way to teach her own children to tie.  They currently come in 2 designs, fairies for girls and race cars for boys.
My Thoughts

Jordan isn't quite ready to learn to tie, his favorite shoes are velcro.  But when I can get him to wear his shoes with laces he's getting better at tying and it's definately thanks to Tie Buddies.  I think these are really great for when kids are ready to learn to tie.  I highly recommend this product.  It makes a great stocking stuffer!  Even though he's still learning, Jordan was really excited when he got these.  He loves the design and thinks they make his shoes look "cool."

Buy It

Tie Buddies can be purchased from Tiebuddies.com for only $8.99 a set.

Win It
One lucky Hot Mom Tips reader will win a set of Tie Buddies of their own.

Guest Post: Five Ways to Find Extra Christmas Cash

Five Ways to Find Extra Christmas Cash

Shopping for Christmas presents can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes
to your budget. Here are five ways to find some extra Christmas cash to help you
purchase the gifts on your list.

Figure Out What You Have

You probably have more than you think you do stockpiled in your pantry and closets
around your house. This is a great time of year to take inventory!

First, check the pantry and freezer. Make a list of meals to prepare for your family
through the Christmas holiday based on ingredients that you already have. Cut your
grocery budget for the next month in order to purchase perishables only, using the
leftover money from the food budget for Christmas gifts.

Go through the same process for other areas of your budget, including miscellaneous
items, clothing, and entertainment. These extra dollars will add up fast!

Practice Couponing

If you don’t yet practice couponing, now is the perfect time to start. Using Sunday ads or
internet printables, begin using coupons when possible while grocery shopping. If you
need a clothing item, search for a coupon before heading out. Only eat in a restaurant if
you there’s a coupon you can use to cut the price of the meal.

Make it a personal goal to only buy or do something if you can use a coupon to help pay
for it. A coupon worth a dollar might seem small when considered by itself, but taken
together over time, your savings can be tremendous.

Budget Considerations

Like the pantry and the freezer, check any stockpiles of gifts you may have collected
through the year. Make a list of people for whom you want to buy Christmas gifts, how
much you want to spend, gift ideas, and any gifts you’ve already purchased. Once the
list is complete, you’ll have a good idea about your budget for Christmas presents as
well as how much or little you actually need to buy.

To squeeze a little more cash out of your monthly paycheck, now might be a good
time to also consider an increase on your auto insurance deductibles as well as an
adjustment of your tax withholding.

Spare Change

Where I live, we’re charged a nominal fee per recyclable can or bottle when we buy
beverages. If you have a similar situation, now’s the time to start recycling to get some
of that money back! The same goes for that jar in the bedroom where you and your
spouse collect random spare change – consider cashing that in for “real” money to use
for gifts!

If possible, many retail companies employ people for the holiday season. This short-
term employment might be an ideal solution for you if you can spare the time for the
extra cash.

Set Up Trades

The holiday season brings more time-consuming tasks, especially as you prepare for
Christmas. To save money and sanity, consider setting up trades with trusted friends
and neighbors for things like babysitting, carpools, and meal preparation. You can give
each other the gift of extra time without paying a cent!

Ideas That Spark: Quick and Crafty Fall Outdoor Activities

By Heather Mann for Ideas That Spark

Fall is such a great time to get outside and enjoy nature with your kids -- and you don't have to spend one penny or devote an entire day to do it. Just power down, leave your phone at home and enjoy an hour of crafty fall outdoor activities together.

Outdoor Treasure Hunt
Go on a nature walk and collect materials for various projects. Give each person a paper bag and have them pick up any treasures they find: rocks, leaves, acorns, pinecones and so on. When you get home, spread out your treasures on a square of sidewalk to share with each other. Keep them in a special “treasure” box and use them for the following outdoor activities:
1. Back to Nature Tic-tac-toe
Collect two sets of like items, such as acorns, pine cones, rocks (at least five of each per set) to use as game pieces for an outdoor version of tic-tac-toe. Play by drawing a game board on the ground with sidewalk chalk.
2. Funny Fall Faces
Draw a circle on the ground with chalk and create a funny face using your natural treasures. Rocks become eyes, leaves become hair, etc. You can vote on the best one or take photos to hang on the fridge.
3. DIY Fall Decorations
Create wreaths, garlands and swags with objects you find in nature. Tie branch clippings together into a round or square wreath formation with extra twine or yarn from your junk drawer. Embellish with brightly colored leaves or fall flowers secured with twist ties or floral wire. Hang your fall family craft projects outside on your fence or front door.  Compost them later in the year, when they start looking shabby.
You don't need much to have a great time together outside this fall. Just grab a sweater and go!

My Thoughts:

I believe that playing games together as a family is very important.  There are a lot of life skills kids can learn from playing games together like patience, cooperation, taking turns and good sportsmanship.  I also believe children learn best through play.  That's why I love ThinkSmart Family for the Wii.  It combines fun and learning and has a great multiplayer function. The different skill levels ensures the whole family can play.  My family really enjoyed ThinkSmart Family, especially playing the multiplayer.  Even my 4 yr old was able to play, in fact I think he had the most fun.  The only issue I have is that it's very unforgiving, you don't get a second chance if you get one wrong and it can be a bit shaky with the Wii remote.  But then that's a common problem I have with the Wii, maybe it's my shaky hands.  Other than that it's really great.

Buy It!

The thinkSMART games are available now at mass and specialty retailers throughout North America. Suggested Retail Price (SRP) for Kids thinkSMART and thinkSMART for the DS is $19.99 and the SRP for Family thinkSMART for Wii™ is 29.99. Review

I was given guest access to the program and books in order to review Stepping Stones Together and I've got to tell you I am really impressed.  My son loves the books and he's really starting to read.  He has fun coloring the pages and he's starting to recognize several of the sight words.  The stories are short enough that they keep his attention and the follow up questions are great.  From the first day he started picking things up, he likes the stories and topics.  The incentive chart is really great, Jordan loves putting on stickers for each book he reads, it's a great motivational tool.  I definitely recommend this program for children struggling or learning to read.

Product Review: Supermarket Smarty

I was recently given the chance to review the Supermarket Smarty and I must tell you I love it!  Supermarket Smarty is a reusable shopping list with all of your most purchased items preloaded, you just put a mark next to the things you need.  Along with the shopping list a meal planner, nutritional facts and magnifying lens are included.  There's also a coupon pocket to stick the coupons you'll be using.

This product is really great! It makes making a grocery list a breeze.  I am so forgetful I usually forget things but with the Supermarket Smarty you just check off what you need.  I keep mine in my backpack for when I make an unscheduled stop at the store or remember something I need while I'm out.  This has been a real time and sanity saver.

I give the Supermarket Smarty very high marks!  You can get one for yourself at http://www.supermarketsmarty.com/ for only $9.99!  Make sure to connect with Supermarket Smarty on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

I hope everybody had a great 4th of July.  Ours was really good.  My brother cam over this afternoon and we went swimming.  I took a notebook and some magazines out so I could read or write while the boys swam but I ended up not even touching them.  I was too amused watching them play.  Jordan, my 4 year old, kept getting in and out of the water.  He'd climb half way in, kick his legs for a bit, climb out, go down to the steps and dunk his head, then climb out again.  They were all playing with a ball, a noodle and a foam knee pad that Roger, my husband, had thrown in for Jordan to use as a kick board.  They were playing some game that seemed to be a cross between keep away and dodge ball.  At one point Jordan whacked my brother across the back with a noodle, his strength always amazes me.

At 8:30 pm we headed over to my in-law's to shoot fireworks.  It was really awesome.  We had a nice variety including small mortars, fountains, sparklers, Roman candles and a few others.  My mother-in-law lives near the  top of one of the highest hills in the area so we were able to see fireworks from all over all 4 cities.  It was truly amazing.  We had never seen so many fireworks, it was as if every other house were shooting them off, the big ones too.  It was honestly difficult to tell the difference between the amateurs and the pros.  Jordan was scared at first but soon his fear was replaced by wonder.  He did not want to come in when we got home because he could still hear them going off.  Jarrod and Julian had a lot of fun too.  Julian was throwing those snap pop things.  He pour a bunch on the ground and Jarrod stomped all over them.  It looked really cool cause his shoes were lighting up with the popping.

After coming home, it didn't take long for the boys to pass out.  They had had an eventful day.  Jarrod said it was the best 4th ever.  It felt good to unplug for a day.  Refresh and just enjoy having time with the whole family.  It seems far too often we're all going in different directions.
