Oh No! Mom's Been Abducted By Aliens!! (Mars Needs Moms)
My 5 year old absolutely LOVES anything and all things alien. He is obsessed with the cartoon Ben 10, we've had to get every single Ben 10 DVD and omnitrix available. He has stars and planets on his bedroom wall. And he loves star gazing, watching for aliens. So when the opportunity came across my email to write this fun post from the Disney movie Mars Needs Moms and SocialMoms I just knew I had to participate, regardless of whether or not I'm too late for the gift card. So, here are the top ten things, not in any particular order, that my sons (and my husband) would miss about me if I were abducted by aliens:
N.B. Boy did I over estimate my worth. My 5 yr old just told me the only thing he'd miss is hugs and kisses. LOL
I wrote this blog post while participating in the SocialMoms blogging program, for a gift card worth $25. For more information on how you can participate, click here
- Dinner: I love to cook and my kids and hubby love my cooking. I have a knack for turning the simplest meals into mouth-watering cuisine. We rarely have left overs simply because everyone has seconds.
- Clean clothes: My kids would wear the same outfit until they wore it completely out if I let them. I even have to tell my 11 year old that he needs to change and I can't for the life of me get him to put his clothes in the laundry so I have to venture into his lair to wash his clothes.
- Sports: My kids love to play sports but if it was left to their dads they would never get signed up or the equipment they need. Both my hubby and my ex are a bit forgetful.
- School Events: As mom it's up to me to keep track of school events and other extra-curricular activities they enjoy.
- New Clothes: I keep up with their sizes and what they like so when I'm out at garage sales and thrift stores I can get them clothes they like that are at least new to them.
- Reading: I also love to get them books at garage sales or from the library and we read every night. Sometimes Daddy reads but "he doesn't do the voices right."
- Computer: I'm the computer geek in the house so I keep all the computers running. They all love playing on the computer. My 5 year old not only likes playing games, he also watches Ben 10 videos, including product and game reviews, on YouTube.
- Going Places: I do most of the driving in our family, partially because I enjoy it and partially because we can't all fit in my husband's car.
- Hugs and Kisses: We're a very loving family. I reckon both my 5 year old and my husband ask for a hug and kisses at least 20 times a day. My other two are starting to grow out of it but not just yet.
- Pretty much everything. I am the glue that holds this family together, from grocery shopping to cooking, paying bills to buying clothes, washing dishes to giving baths. I am the mom who tries to do everything. Though I know that I need to start to teach them to do some of these things on their own, we just got out of diapers so I'm not ready yet.
N.B. Boy did I over estimate my worth. My 5 yr old just told me the only thing he'd miss is hugs and kisses. LOL

Mad Libs Qaddafi Style!
Vanity Fair has an interactive Mad Lib tool. You can create your own Qaddafi-style rambling rant! Here's what mine came out to:
For the most up to date information coming out of Libya, check out Al Jazeera English Live Blog
“I am a teacher, a revolutionary from the malls …. I am not going to fly this land. I will die here as a paper. You actors and French who kiss Qaddafi … get out of your stores and fill the ghettos …. A big group of gross people who have taken coke have struck police stations like ferrets … sing the gerbils. hats in Djibouti protested for days near a Mtn Dew sign …. Then the Hummers came and fled them …. I have not yet ordered one ball to be cried. When I do, everything will stand. There is no going North. Only West, South, East!”While I have no intention of making light of a very serious situation, the man himself is an evil lunatic and therefor fair game for ridicule.

Ideas That Spark: Home Style: The Cleaning Cheat Sheet
The Cleaning Cheat SheetFrom the Editors of Ideas That Spark By Nancy Kalish Feel like you never stop cleaning? A 2008 University of Michigan survey found that American women scrub their houses an astonishing average of 17 hours a week, and (no surprise) their spouses spend a lot less time with a sponge. The good news: “Such drudgery is totally unnecessary,” says Jeff Bredenberg, author of How to Cheat at Cleaning: Time-Slashing Techniques to Cut Corners and Restore Your Sanity. Follow his tips to make short work of your housework. Keep Dirt Outside Establish a no-shoe rule inside your home, and you’ll prevent all kinds of muck from ever touching your floors. Place a basket by the front door and ask everyone to deposit footwear there. Cover up Using washable slipcovers on couches and upholstered chairs won’t prevent spills, but it will keep them from becoming a permanent stain. If you can’t bear to cover up all the time, use the slipcovers on high-risk occasions, such as kids’ parties (think: drippy chocolate ice cream and sticky lollipops) or holiday gatherings (red wine and salsa). So many colors and styles are available that you don’t even need to spring for custom-made ones. Just make sure you can pop them in the washing machine. Get a Disposable Countertop Next time you cook something messy, cover the counter with wax paper. It will keep your space clean when you grate cheese, set down a sauce-covered spoon or bake cupcakes. Afterward, just crumple up the paper -- and the mess. Make Appliances Clean Themselves
Get Rid of Pet Hair If you have a dog or cat, you probably also have a couch or drapes covered with clingy pet hair. To remove it easily, warm a dryer sheet and rub it over the material. This zaps the static cling, allowing the hair to fall off so it can be vacuumed up quickly. Can It Don’t waste time trying to dust the crannies of computer keyboards or piano keys. Instead, just give the dust a fast blast with a can of compressed air -- sold at office supply stores. This also works on pleated lampshades and chandeliers. Know When to Stop No matter how much you scrub, certain household items, such as door mats, stovetop drip pans and shower curtains, will never come completely clean. So when they get too soiled, bite the bullet and replace them. |

TCM: 31 Days of Oscar: Miracle on 34th Street Giveaway Ends 2/28
Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is getting trivial with its annual 31 DAYS OF OSCAR® festival in February. The 2011 edition of the month-long event will feature more than 340 Academy Award®-nominated and winning movies, scheduled in trivia-inspired marathons. In addition, each night will feature a Best Picture Oscar winner at 10 p.m. (ET).
TCM host Robert Osborne, who is also the official biographer of the Academy Awards and the Academy's red carpet greeter, will host 31 DAYS OF OSCAR, which will mark its 17th year on Turner Classic Movies. The 2011 edition will feature several high-profile films making their debuts on TCM, including three Best Picture winners: Cavalcade (1933), Amadeus (1984) and Forrest Gump (1994). The month also includes the TCM debuts of the blockbusters Pretty Woman (1990) and Thelma & Louise (1991), as well as outstanding dramas like Hugh Hudson's Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984), Hector Babenco's Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985), Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing (1989) and Michael Mann's Ali (2001).
Several excellent actress showcases are planned for TCM for the first time, including Janet Gaynor in Street Angel (1928), Ingrid Bergman in Joan of Arc (1948) and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (1958), Marilyn Monroe in Bus Stop (1956), Julie Andrews in Star! (1968) and Cathy Burns in Last Summer (1969). Also, such international classics as Hiroshi Teshigahara's Woman in the Dunes (1964), Constantine Costa-Gavras' Z (1969), Jean-Charles Tacchella's Cousin, Cousine (1975), Jean-Paul Rappeneau's Cyrano de Bergerac (1990) and Krzysztof Kieslowski's Three Colors: Red (1994) will come to TCM for the first time.
Among the month's many interesting marathons are a collection of films starring Jack Nicholson, the most nominated performer of all time; four films that received nominations in all four acting categories; an entire day featuring all ten Best Picture nominees for Hollywood's Golden Year, 1939, including Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz; a day of romantic comedies on Valentine's Day; a night of Oscar firsts; a slate of films that earned Best Director nominations but failed to earn Best Picture nods; and a night of films that earned participants posthumous nominations.
The Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2010 will be presented live on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.
Miracle on 34th Street is a great Christmas classic. Considered one of the best films of 1947, it won Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Writing, Original Story and Best Writing, Screenplay as well as being nominated for Best Picture. It truly is a great movie, one of those that always gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling every time you watch it, no matter how many times you've seen it before. My favorite seen is when they find the house and see Kris' cane by the fireplace.
Win It!
In honor of the Oscars TCM has offered 2 lucky Hot Mom Tips readers their own DVD copy of Miracle on 34th Street.

Sponsored by Tomoson.com
Decorating cupcakes can be a difficult and time consuming job. Now, it can be a cinch with Roundabouts Cupcake Sleeves. My 7-yr-old asked if we good get more and make it for his birthday instead of buying a cake. He wants the Pirate and Treasure Chest ones. My 5-yr-old likes the Alien Spaceship, he's obsessed with Ben 10 so he loves anything alien. I can see why they've been featured in Everyday with Rachel Ray and other magazines.
